What is a Certified Arborist?
An arborist is trained in the science and art of caring for and maintaining plants and trees. Certification involves an official assessment of an arborist’s knowledge and competence to provide proper tree care. The certified arborists at Texas Tree Guy LLC are also required to maintain certification by remaining up to date on the latest techniques in arboriculture.
When is the best time to prune a tree?
Conifers are pruned year round, but pruning during the dormant season may minimize sap and resin flow from cut branches.
Hardwood trees and shrubs without showy flowers should be pruned in the dormant season to maximize wound closure, reduce the chance of spreading disease, and to discourage sap flow.
Trees and shrubs that flower in early spring such as dogwood should be pruned immediately after flowering.
Trees and shrubs that flower in the summer and fall should be pruned during their dormant season.
Dead branches can be removed any time of year.
Why should I prune my trees?
The main reasons for pruning ornamental and shade trees include safety, tree health, and aesthetics. Proper pruning can be used to stimulate fruit production and increase the value of timber.
Pruning for safety involves removing branches that could fall and cause injury or property damage.
Pruning for health involves removing diseased or insect-infested wood, thinning the crown to increase airflow and reduce some pest problems.
Pruning can best be used to encourage trees to develop strong structures and reduce the likelihood of damage during severe weather.

Why is stump grinding necessary?
Stump grinding is a specialized process to remove stumps on your property. After a tree has been cut to ground level, the stump is ground into small wood pieces that create mulch, which can be reused in your grass and soil.
Rather than digging up a large root system attached to the stump, grinding it down allows it to be covered with dirt until it decays.
When should cabling and bracing be used?
Cabling can be used to protect, preserve, or prevent damage to existing trees. If your tree’s limbs are at risk of failing, cabling is used to protect an otherwise unhealthy tree that has weak branches.
If the tree is weak, cabling is used to preserve its aesthetic value. If the tree poses a risk, cabling is used to protect it from falling over a populated space.
